The play value and therapeutic benefits of bubbles, currents and sprays are endless.

Swimming -- whether for leisure, exercise or sport -- is a popular activity in Canada. Studies show that for most Canadian communities, the number of per capita swims ranges from four to nine. Where a community fits into this range depends on the type of pool that it has. Communities with the best facilities are, of course, at the high end of this range, which reduces the tax subsidy required by the pool.

A new indoor pool is required to replace the one that has served the Greater Battlefords community for well over 40 years. Our existing pool is inefficient in its use of energy and costs a lot to maintain. Thus, a potential exists for significant savings in operating costs if a facility using new and more energy efficient technology is developed.

The new facility will incorporate a competition-size pool as well as a zero-depth leisure area.
The concept also includes a zero-depth beach, a waterslide, a lazy river, Tarzan rope and sprays for all to enjoy. There will also be a large whirlpool, steam room and program area that will accommodate users who wish to combine swimming with their exercise, steam or whirlpool experiences. Program rooms will be available for birthday parties, leadership training programs and administrative meetings.

  • The new indoor pool and leisure facility will:
  • Increase the quantity of visits
  • Increase the quality of each visit to the new facility
  • Entice users who travel to newer pools in other communities
  • Motivate current non-users to take up a new sport or leisure activity
  • Provide new activities and experiences not currently available in the existing pool

The environment of the new leisure pool will be resort-like.
